ABSTRACT

I soon reached the cottage; but as it was not my intention to make a forcible entry, and spring upon Jones in his castle, if he really were there, I judged it advisable to wait till he might come forth to go to the cliff, when I could more certainly master him in the open field. But the first point was to ascertain if he were in the house; if not, I should have to proceed to the general rendezvous.
