ABSTRACT
The young gentleman’s story, so far as I became acquainted with it, was in its outlines by no means uncommon, though many of the particular circumstances were rare – at least, for the honour of humanity I hope so. The details which I obtained from him at different times, both then and afterwards, threw so much light on the transactions I wished to investigate, that it may not be unimportant to give a sketch of them from the facts that came to my knowledge.
