The Yellow Book phase of London literary life lasted some years. It was Oscar Wilde’s tragedy that killed it, for the Quarterly itself ceased to be very interesting even to the young people of the ’nineties when its art editor, Aubrey Beardsley, left it to work for the Savoy, published by Leonard Smithers.
