ABSTRACT

The capital of the Gold Coast Colony is Accra; the principal ports are Axim, Sekondi, Cape Coast Castle, Saltpond, Winnebah, Accra, Adah, and Keta. The most important products of the Gold Coast are: Gold, cocoa, rubber, palm oil, palm kernels, timber, and kola nuts. There are comparatively few coca-nut plantations on the Gold Coast, and the palms in such plantations are greatly neglected, with the inevitable result that they have been ravaged by insect pests, and that their fruit has much deteriorated, both in quantity and quality. Cotton gins of various kinds, palm-nut cracking machines, a baling press, were exhibited by various English firms, and during the Show practical demonstrations of their uses and advantages were given. The bunches of Fresh Palm-nuts were good, and every encouragement should be given to the native to bring palm-nuts and kernels to the Coast, as this industry is neglected in the Southern portion of the District.
