ABSTRACT

The Sharp letters in this volume begin with Robert Sharp’s letters from Piraeus, Greece, where he is serving in the British navy, and continue from England after his return there. They include other letters from England and America from other family members and acquaintances. The letters from England are especially interesting for observations of the Great Exhibition (and how it will somehow injure the working classes), the reactions to letters sent to them in America, and the preparations for the journey to America.
