General Prankhe selected a site whence the Imperial Spectator might watch in safety the overwhelming and triumphant march of the German soldiers. The Kaiser was installed on the high ground above the Maidstone – Ashford road. He was attended by his Chancellor, secretaries, aides-de-camp, military advisers, the foremost primes and nobles of his empire, and a crowd of foreign attachés.
