ABSTRACT

As the magnificent regiment of hussars trotted just, the infantry battalions greeted it with a tempest of cheers. They recognised the fact that with those splendid horsemen lay the last chance of warding offirreparable disaster. The lines of horses swept along as calmly and evenly as on the parade ground, with a jingle of harness and flashing of a thousand sabres. Now they were in full view of the lines of Germans waiting to receive them, anti the sunlight sparkled from sabres and uniforms and the terrible rows of bayonets.
