ABSTRACT
A thrill of pride and elation passed through the German Empire when the complete defeat of the British navy and the terrible Sedan of the British army were announced. The Empire was drunk with the wine of victory and throbbed with loyalty and aggressive militarism. The Kaiser was almost regarded as a god, and reached the dazzling zenith of his power and popularity. Every regiment in Germany clamoured to be sent to take part in the conquest of England. Newspapers went wild over the brilliant victories, and suggested the permanent occupation of England by German armies, and that her name should be wiped out from the list of great Powers.
