ABSTRACT
During the days that followed, the little army of defence was thrown out over the Kentish Downs. They were desperately short of cavalry, and the artillery at their disposal was inadequate for their requirements. It was practically a battle of riflemen, many of them only half-trained, against an overpowering host.
