ABSTRACT
We had brought our historical survey down to the Century of Peace, and I had told you what were the principal characteristics of that period. We will now, if you please, resume our review of leading events from the latter part of the peaceful and progressive epoch that succeeded the Social Revolution; that is to say, we will take up our parable in the opening decades of the twenty-first century; and you will remember you are still supposed to belong to the nineteenth century.
