ABSTRACT
An incident happened about this time, which confirmed the Doctor’s good opinion of Tim, and gave him a great reputation in the neighbourhood. We have already remarked his active disposition and fondness for rural sports: in / this Dr. Homily wisely encouraged him, on the principle, that innocent amusements are the best preservatives against guilty ones; and that a strong constitution, confirmed by exertion and exposure to difficulties, is one of the best blessings of life, and generally renders the owner most happy in himself, and most useful to others. He therefore gave scope to young Timothy’s propensity for these employments and exercises.
