ABSTRACT

Sir Charles, true to his promise, even in contradiction of his own judgment, used his influence so effectually, that when the name of the unfortunate culprit was presented in a list of condemned felons, to the king, he was graciously pleased to grant her a free pardon; and in a few days, Dorothy had the happiness to send her maid for this unfortunate relative, who, released at once from a prison, from poverty, and the expectation of a disgraceful death, could with difficulty sob out her gratitude at the feet of her deliverers.
