ABSTRACT

It is now time to follow the steps of our hero, who was pursuing his route to London. The fears of Dr. Portwell were needless. Le Noir was not one of those enthusiastic adventurers, who wantonly expose themselves to / hazard without some efficient cause. He knew in the present instance, that honesty was the best policy. There was nothing he could have taken from the Doctor whose value could balance the consequence of detection, for he was not tempted by poverty, his purse, as we have already observed, being well supplied, and he had many recommendations to persons in London, whose principles he imagined were not all so fluctuating as those of his Winchester friend. He continued however to pursue his journey on foot, as he thought that mode of travelling would afford him the best opportunity of conversing with that class of citizens, / who were most likely to become converts to his doctrine.
