ABSTRACT
The party sat down to a plentiful dinner, which was followed by as plentiful a libation to Bacchus, 64 during which ceremony, as usual, the various topics of sporting, farming, scandal, religion, obscenity, taxes, and at last / politics were canvassed. On this latter subject, and indeed on all of them, the opinions of the company were divided, but politics were treated with the greatest, and most general earnestness, as being a conversation in which every body might join, since, as* Squire Western very justly observed, a discourse on the state of the nation is what every body understands.
