ABSTRACT

A Motion had been made at the preceding meeting, and which was to be taken into consideration at this, after the public business of the society was closed, for putting the election of the president, and the / general management of the club under new regulations, and into other hands than those where they were at present vested. The person who brought forward this proposition contended, that much abuse had crept into every part of the arrangement; that many rules incapable of being observed were adopted, and those few that were good were never carried into execution, and that the whole management was monopolized, by a few self-appointed members, under the specious name of a committee, to the exclusion of all the rest, who had an equal right to be consulted; and he concluded by moving, that a new committee should be appointed, to take into consideration / the state of the society, and report it to the next meeting.
