ABSTRACT

J. Pyle & S. Harrington in their excellent publication on designing effective library leaflets, give some useful pointers on images to avoid such as "disembodied hands holding light-pens". There is an increasing choice of software which has been specifically developed for drawing and design purposes and which will provide people with what are known as 'clip-art' images. The Commonwealth Development Corporation's Library and Information Centre, produces a series of detailed guides to the different services which they offer. The impact of the layout will be affected by the colour of the background and any use of colour in the printing, as well as by the strength of the typeface. There was a time when the most common and possibly only form of non-print guide to a library was the slide-tape presentation. The purpose and the intended end-user must remain as the priority and direct people thinking throughout the process of preparing people non-print guide.
