ABSTRACT

This chapter considers a number of approaches teachers can consider in order to provide a supportive classroom environment once the wider school systems are in place and being consistently applied. Children may hide their anxiety because they do not know how to express it to others. Children may respond to their anxiety by having angry outbursts or defiant behaviour. Maths anxiety is becoming increasingly recognised in psychology and education and is a valid phenomenon that can affect people of all abilities. A child or young person who has repeated panic attacks in school may be able to take part with parents and school staff in agreeing a suitable planAnxious children benefit significantly from developing good relationships with their teachers. Quality circle time is a well-known and highly respected method for helping to develop positive relationships in the classroom. Listening is the most fundamental component of interpersonal communication.
