ABSTRACT

Although there is much emphasis nowadays on the concept of teacher as facilitator, there is one important function which normally only the teacher can perform, and that is his role in monitoring standards of accuracy and appropriateness. What this means in practical terms is that we teachers are the ones who mark the students’ work. Or are we? The answer is, not necessarily so. The students themselves can check each other’s work, though this does not mean that we can take a holiday from marking.
