ABSTRACT

The Contract Management Grid has been used by various public bodies over the last few years as a segmentation tool to identify the type of contract management that is required for various contracts. The Contract Management Grid helps organisations to prioritise their contracts around the dimensions of risk and value. Those of higher value and/or risk need to be prioritised over the others and this tool will help achieve that. The Contract Management Grid is a great starting place for organisations looking to develop a proactive contract management discipline; however it is just a starting place. The grid allows an organisation to identify its highest risk and highest value contracts and nominates specific contract managers for each of them. Most medium-sized and large organisations have hundreds or thousands of third-party contracts and so it impossible to expect each and every contract to be managed in the same manner with the same level of resource and management effort.
