ABSTRACT

Claude Shannon’s Communication Process is credited with being the forerunner in the modern field of communication models. The model illustrates the general process of communication and identifies the key components and their impact upon the message being transmitted. Communication requires at least two people – a sender and a recipient. Clear communication processes are essential across a spectrum of organisational activities ranging from public relations to team development. Theory suggests that by making communication more effective in the work place, efficiency and productivity levels will remain consistently high. Clear communication processes are essential across a spectrum of organisational activities ranging from public relations to team development. The original model was based on telegraph technology and, although the underlying principles still hold, the reality of most modern communication systems is far more complex.
