ABSTRACT

Professors Julia Balogun and Veronica Hope Hailey jointly published their model which is applied primarily in the context of the firm, and classification is based upon the speed and level of transformation required. The ‘Speed’ variable ranges from big bang to step by step, whilst the extent of the ‘Change’ can be viewed as either transformational or strategic realignment. Therefore, based upon these parameters organisational change can be identified as: evolution, adaptation, revolution, and reconstruction. Change initiatives within the procurement function could include the implementation of a new Purchase-to-Pay system, switching key suppliers and realigning autonomous supply chain functions. The beauty of this model is its simplicity. The matrix clearly shows how the variables of speed and type of change correlate in order to provide a classification mechanism, which can be easily interpreted and applied across a number of scenarios.
