ABSTRACT

The United Kingdom was the first country within the European Union (EU) to establish the Passenger name records (PNR) system, and was one of the Member States strongly supporting its Europe-wide application. The chapter presents a brief reflection on the possibilities of access by the United Kingdom as a third country to second generation Schengen Information System (SIS II), Europol, Prüm Decisions and PNR. An agreement on access to SIS/SIS II would not be a novelty as such as it has been already granted to four third states: Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland. From the opt-in made in 2014, one can form an idea of the EU security tools that the United Kingdom would like to use and have access to in the future. In the case of information exchange, they would be Europol, SIS II, the Prüm Decisions and the PNR.
