ABSTRACT

This chapter considers a major theme in private policing research: the regulation of private security. The chapter explores the debate concerning regulation and the foundations for standards – including voluntary initiatives. The differences between regulatory systems in different countries will then be explored, before the chapter consider some of the rankings that have been developed of different private security regulatory systems. The chapter also examines some of the international guidance that has been established for private security regulation, as well some global schemes for the regulation of private security firms.
