ABSTRACT

Begins with a detailed discussion of various ways in which language can obscure an arguer’s intended meaning. We then return to non-argumentative techniques of persuasion, introducing what we call rhetorical ploys. Common species of rhetorical ploys are considered, as well as jargon and spin.
