ABSTRACT

This is a basic truth: Social Sciences, everywhere, are guided by events and crises. While it is true that academics must keep their heads above the flow of the everyday, this should not mean they ignore the pressing realities around them. It is only by seriously engaging with events we realize that a very significant shift is gradually taking place in politics. Agitations are veering, more and more, in the direction of citizenship, but not yet in a full blown form. Old habits of politics do not die overnight, nor are new trends easily visible at the start.
