ABSTRACT

The Julio-Claudian dynasty comprises of the rulers such as Augustus, Tiberius, Caligula, Claudiu and Nero. Claudius Nero (Claudius was his gens name, Nero his surname). The Flavian dynasty began with Vespasian (69–79) and his two sons ruled after him: Titus and Domitian. Then Septimius Severus was sole emperor until 211. The soldier emperors consisted of Maximinus Thrax, Gordian I and II, Gordian III, Philippus Arabs, Decius, Trebonianus Gallus, and Valerian. In the late imperial age, Diocletian and his co-emperor, Maximian (Milan), and the junior emperors Galerius (east) and Constantius Chlorus (Trier) ruled from 284 to 305 (Diocletian 284–305; Maximian 286–305; Constantius 293–306 and Galerius 293–311). After 305 Galerius became the most important emperor in the east. Then the dynasty of Constantius Chlorus came to power with Constantine the Great, Constantius II, and Julian.
