ABSTRACT

This prelude takes the reader to the starting line of the exploration and investigation with the questions: What is Chinese relationalism? Where does it come from and how does it exert its power on people’s decisions and actions? The Introduction then lays out the course of explorations to find the answers. The journey will examine the roots of relationalism in four major areas: history, philosophy, social wealth distribution and the Chinese psyche and selfhood. With the new insight of relationalism and how it functions in the Chinese culture, the last six chapters will lead the reader into investigations of the critical relationships – Party-State relationship, the CCP and Chinese society relationship, and diplomatic relationships in the international community – that will help steer China’s destiny in the 21st century: intraparty relationship.
