Individual interviews with players or coaches, often scheduled through media relations departments or sports information directors. Successful sports interviewing means working within the given parameters and maximizing the opportunities provided. Before the reporter head out to the stadium or field, it's important to understand some key aspects of sports reporting and the rules by which we cover teams. Dan Plesac says interviewing athletes can be both challenging and frustrating. Sports interview challenges are not always the fault of the team or player. The rigidity of new or inexperienced reporters can blind them to the challenges in their question or interview style, such as the "rally-killer" question.
