ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the author looks at the methodology behind reducing risks – and offer insights into how best to assess the potential harm of any trip taken for a factual production. Risk reduction is an important part of preparing for a research or film trip. Producers and directors need to demonstrate that they’ve done their best to ensure that their crew comes back safely and without incident, and that any potential harm to contributors or people unconnected with shoot have, as far as possible, been minimized. Risk assessment might be long way from creative side of filmmaking, but it is way in which filmmaker lessen the foreseeable negative consequences of their actions on the ground. The rest of the form contains the ‘meat’ of the filmmaker risk assessment. This is normally completed by the film producer or director. It offers a list of likely hazards followed by a section where their detail the actions taken to minimize the risks.
