ABSTRACT

Mark Haggarty, a man with Asperger’s syndrome who describes his obsessions as France and grabatology (collecting ties), has some sage advice for those responding to a job advertisement:

Find out as much as you can about the organisation to which you will be applying. Begin with simple things, such as when the company was established, how many people they employ and exactly what type of business they are involved in. Knowing this information should make the process that is to follow less daunting and it will give you an idea as to whether the organisation will make a suitable workplace for you. As well as that, it will also mean that you can show a certain degree of knowledge about the company should you go for an interview. It is never a good idea to go for a job interview without any knowledge of the company you could potentially be going to work for! 1
