ABSTRACT

The first task after getting the song mapped out is to find the dynamic curve of the song. Dynamic curves exist in almost all music, it is responsible for the emotional, intellectual, and spiritual activation of a song. Some refer to this concept as peaks and valleys in musical story telling. There are some basic archetypal “flows” that songs and genres follow. This chapter provides some examples. Even harmonics are instruments or sounds that are warm and calming. Instruments made of wood tend to be warmer also. The tongue or log drum is a great example of an even harmonic instrument. Sounds with very few harmonics are called pure. This would include a sin wave tone generator, tuning forks, crystal bowls, flutes, and some bells. Beautiful musical intervals and chords are called harmonic or consonant. Annoying intervals or chords are called dissonant. Obviously the harmonic chords are more calming.
