Although we can say of certain of the offences which we have mentioned that, in proportion to the population, they were less in evidence in former times than now, yet as far as the misdeeds enumerated in this chapter are concerned, closely allied as they are with 97those dealt with in the preceeding chapter, it must be admitted that the exact opposite is the case.
