ABSTRACT
Governors should be satisfied that their school's quality assurance procedures are in place and working. Quality assurance in schools most frequently takes the form of policies formally drawn up jointly by head teachers, staff and governors. The most important policy document which all head teachers and governors should have is a clear statement of the aims of the education provided by the school. The head teacher's reports to the governors can focus primarily on how well the school is meeting its aims and how existing policies are working. The sorts of policies which governors might need to work out with their head teachers will vary from school to school in the light of each school's needs. Educational journeys are an important part of school life and the school curriculum. Governors are entitled to have their own policy about the sanctions to be used in their school. Governors need to ask themselves whether the sanctions which their school employs are effective.
