ABSTRACT
This chapter explores in greater depth the idea of the three ages of learning, as described in Chapter 1 (pre-industrial, industrial and post-industrial ages). It asks questions about how change happens, what triggers that change and how education systems have responded in the past. The chapter also builds on the definitions provided in Chapter 1 to determine what the key elements of schools and the systems that surround them are.
