ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the building of interactive system models for DC to AC converters, also known as inverters. It provides the circuit models for three-phase 180° mode and 120° mode inverters using semiconductor switches such as bipolar junction-transistors. The switching function concept is used to develop system models for the inverter for these two modes of gate drive. These interactive models have pop-up menus or dialogue boxes where the required data relating to the DC to AC converter are entered by the user. These system models use modules from the Simulink® block set, which solve the governing equations relating to the relevant DC to AC converter. The governing equations are the gate drive pattern for the two modes of inverter operation. The root mean square value and fast Fourier transform of the line-to-neutral voltage of a six-step 180° mode inverter is derived.
