ABSTRACT

The chapter on success and failure in public conflict resolution provides a concise compilation of question and answers on crucial prerequisites for achieving highly rated agreements. Step by step, I take the reader through fifteen key factors that are acknowledged in the literature and in practice and provide helpful take-aways for scholars, students and practitioners alike. Every one of these factors is characterized by strong theoretical or empirical expectations to support or obstruct public conflict resolution success. Moreover, I highlight three particular conditions that are commonly overlooked in many studies and provide an insight into how they influence the conflict resolution process. These conditions comprise critical process dynamics that can lead to game-changing moments in the process of solving a conflict.
