ABSTRACT

This chapter will provide a brief overview of guidelines and considerations in conducting equine-assisted counseling and psychotherapy (EACP) in different formats. The chapter discusses different EACP formats to include individual counseling, couple counseling, family counseling, and group counseling. This chapter discusses the benefits of each format and provides recommendations for choosing a format based on client needs and issues to be addressed. Special attention is paid to strategies to maintain the integrity of the human-equine relationship even when the human-equine relationship may not be the primary focus (such as working with couples, families, or groups).
