ABSTRACT

This chapter deals with processes of computer based training (CBT) development and testing in companies that decided to do their own, though possibly in association with a provider. Any company introducing CBT faces organisational issues. Whatever organisational approach they choose, companies should recognise that CBT may break the mould of their conventional training practices. Systemic development is what is needed, with careful integration of the various processes. These are laid out below one after the other, but in fact a great deal of iteration is usually demanded. In other words, objectives may be clarified, somewhat late in the day, by the developmental testing. As for all training, considerable work has to go into identifying the audience, analysing needs and selecting training strategies. Linking together the CBT and the video in an effective way is probably the most difficult part, but many authoring systems provide for the programming aspects of this.
