ABSTRACT

This chapter explores how do companies get to hear about new training technology. Though companies have some difficulty in obtaining the information, they feel they need for corporate decision-making about the new technology. The chapter describes several basic strategies to companies that want to find out about new technology in training in a systematic way. Advice is available from both consultants and vendors. Visits to other companies using computer-based training or considering using it can be very valuable, as can joining a user group. The company's own resources may prove surprisingly useful. Visiting conferences, trade shows and exhibitions, where other user companies are present together with providers, is an excellent source of information. In both the United States and Britain. there are several national gatherings on computer-based training and/or interactive videodisc. In particular, in company development times and costs are frequently underestimated by both the company and the consultant.
