ABSTRACT

Once the foundations are in place, both choreographers and designers need to refine their ideas and shape them into a finished product. The resources of a dance company can even influence the actual choreographic structure of a piece. The size and shape of the performance space may determine how many dancers can be in a work, where they can enter and exit, or whether a costume change can happen out of view of the audience. The actual producer of a piece or performance usually has specific expectations for the works created under their umbrella. A dance company might have a specific aesthetic they prefer. This could encompass a style of choreography genre of music, or the visual look of the dancers—costume, or even hairstyles and footwear.
