ABSTRACT

Major difficulty encountered by all who wish to use a technique is the purely practical one of obtaining the necessary facts and figures. Techniques are essentially fact-consuming. The Fore and Aft rule needs to be liberally interpreted—in other words, tell everyone who may be even remotely involved about the technique to be introduced and why. This may not only reduce their resentment at being asked to provide extra figures, but may turn it into an attitude of positive and constructive cooperation. A suitable name might be Management Services Section and its head might best be an executive who had shown an interest in and an aptitude for using techniques. An executive, or line manager, as head of this department would not be so liable to misdirect its efforts: but he must know a good deal about techniques or he could not direct it at all.
