ABSTRACT

Chapter 15 introduces the material that precedes what has traditionally been referred to as Septem Sermones ad Mortuos. A deceased shade appears to Jung and wishes to serve him and performs a Mass to prepare Jung, Philemon and the dead for their teachings in the Sermones. Jung’s presentation and relationship to the shade seems to suggest she might be the deceased Helly Preiswerk, Jung’s cousin. Why Helly makes a viable option for the shade is examined. The Mass is now considered seminal to the Sermones and is discussed here in relation to its influence over Jung, Philemon and the dead.
