ABSTRACT

Healthy relationships are built on trust and no relationship can thrive without it, but regrettably sex and porn addiction obliterate trust and leave many people feeling unable to trust themselves, let alone their partner. This chapter begins with an exercise to help people to evaluate trust within their relationship and notice the areas where they have more faith in their partner and in themselves and those where trust needs just a little more work. This exercise, along with myth-busting, encourages couples to see that trust has not disappeared completely. Practical strategies for building honesty, empathy and accountability are explored at length and a variety of techniques provided for both the partner and the addicted partner. The chapter ends with guidance on managing slips and relapses and a checklist of evidence of recovery.
