ABSTRACT
Sex and porn addiction wreck couple relationships. For the partner it combines the most destructive ingredients of personal pain – betrayal, sexual infidelity, deceit and shame. It combines both the well-known devastation of an affair with the torment and challenges of addiction. For the addicted partner they are forced to face their greatest fear of being discovered and potentially losing everything they love, and losing an aspect of themselves that they have relied on for emotional security. Sex and porn addiction are unlike any other addiction because they violate the very core of a couple’s intimate relationship. Not only is trust and intimacy seriously damaged, but many couples feel isolated and misunderstood by friends and professionals alike because sex addiction continues to be surrounded with social stigma and ignorance. This chapter ends exploding some of the common myths around sex addiction and those who struggle with it.
