ABSTRACT

Before couples can make a decision about the future they need to know the full extent of what has happened to their relationship. Chapter 5 focuses on disclosure, when to do it, how to do it and why it needs to be done. Disclosure can be a very painful experience for both partners, but without the truth being equally known and shared by both, it’s impossible for a relationship to be rebuilt on truth, honesty and integrity. This chapter provides a step-by-step guide to undertaking a disclosure and also explains how a polygraph may be used. The chapter ends with thoughts and advice on telling others including children, friends and extended family members.
