ABSTRACT

This chapter deals with the peripheral matters that assist us in providing an excellent history education. I start by sharing ideas for classroom display that supports students in their learning, including the importance of timelines and key word displays, as well as suggestions for displays that assist students in their independent learning. I then work through some suggestions for meaningful homework that contributes to lessons, provides students with opportunities for further research and extends their love of history. Next, I share my extensive experience in planning school visits, both locally and further afield. I will offer ideas for tasks and wider learning, using my own trips as case studies, and also practical guidance on things such as writing risk assessments. I finish with some tips for teacher wellbeing.
