ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book examines the commands in AutoCAD and only discusses how to use those that are most frequently used when completing drafting for theatrical productions. While the book only discusses individual commands, it is recommended that users of this book will combine many of the commands discussed into projects to complete drafting packets of objects and assemblies. While the book does not specifically exclude the drafting of lighting designs and light plots, the author has found throughout his career that most lighting designers prefer to use computer-aided design software other than AutoCAD. As a Technical Director, he also tends to be more focused on the engineering and construction of scenery. Because of these two factors, the book discusses only the drafting of lighting instruments and the positions of lighting instruments.
