ABSTRACT

As wonderful as AutoCAD is for automating the process of design and drafting, paper layouts created within the software and then printed continue to be the primary means of communicating these designs. In an effort to standardize drafting practices, the United States Institute of Theatre Technology (USITT) has released a document detailing standard theatrical drafting practices. This chapter discusses recommendations for the styles that will be defined in the style managers based on the USITT defined drafting practices. Paper comes in many sizes. Whatever size is used, each individual sheet of paper is referred to as a drafting plate. Whatever paper size user choose to use, each drafting plate should have a title block that includes important information regarding the drafting included on that plate. Reference lines are centered underneath individual drawings and include information specific to the individual drawing. Line type refers to the type of line or the pattern a line follows.
