ABSTRACT

The mobile device has changed everything – our lifestyle, our connections to each other, our connections to the world. It has become our postmodern daemon, a place where a bit of all our souls now consistently resides. The initial tools for digital storytelling were unreliable, and inconsistent. The authors looked for apps on both the iPhone and the Android devices, but their tests of these various products suggested these platforms were not ready for prime time. As suggested in the iOStory workshops, the authors also found it useful to have people spend time in a new place in their initial experience of sharing their stories in a story circle. They discuss story concepts with the participants, decided upon appropriate sites, and then draw out a route for a three-hour tour and story-sharing process. The authors nicknamed the process the walking story circle.
