ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses programs and models that institutions can use as they build a global and inclusive campus, ranging from large-scale institutional initiatives to classroom-based projects. The focus is on the end goal of students learning and developing as global citizens, with many possible paths to that goal. Creating a class climate of inclusivity that encourages global citizen values requires involvement from across the campus. Comprehensive campus involvement implies there is an appropriate administrative structure and staffing; a globally focused curriculum, co-curriculum, and learning outcomes; faculty policies and practices that prioritize global education; and meaningful collaboration and partnerships. Many institutions begin global learning projects with efforts to internationalize their curriculum. Internationalizing a curriculum is a comprehensive task that involves “the incorporation of international, intercultural, and/or global dimensions into the content of the curriculum as well as the learning outcomes, assessment tasks, teaching methods and support services of a program of study”.
